William S Burroughs

Portrait of William Seward Burroughs (1914 - 1997). Burroughs was born in St Louis, Missouri. For much of his youth he led a priveleged existence, travelling around spending an allowance afforded him by well to do parents after graduating from Harvard. Burroughs became caught up in drug subculture and spent many years on the run, notably in North Africa. Tragically burroughs only became a writer after accidentally shooting his wife dead (Joan Vollmer). Burroughs went on to write some of the most highly acclaimed and controvertial modern literature of his generation, creating works such as, The Naked Lunch, Soft Machine, Nova Express, The Wild Boys, The Place Of Dead Roads and Cities Of The Red Night among others. 60 x 60 cm deep canvas.
