AbstractAn original oil painting on 24 x 30 inch Box canvas. AbstractAn original oil painting on 24 x 30 inch Box canvas. This is a larger version of the small Wet Windows Series. A reflection upon a wet window of how industrialisation - building, form, straight lines and control become diffused in the light reflected through a wet window. All that you see is interpretation an abstract of reality. Colours awash heightened, fading altered, the substance and harshness softened changed. It is that with which we observe we change - a Socialogical construct which holds truth through the development of mankind and the technology he uses to change the enviroment.

Scarlet Seduction

A vibrant piece of abstract acrylic art. A vibrant piece of abstract acrylic art. This painting was designed to create impact with the deep scarlet background colour applied thickly with a brush using professional quality acrylic paints. The next stage was masking off certain areas of the red in order to create two elongated triangles in the centre of the painting. I then applied some metallic silver paint in this area using a paletter knife. Once that was dry I used a dropper to paint several splashes of bight red along the silver area. I also made some zig-zag lines in between the silver triangles using a silver acrylic paint from a fine nozzle. The dots of silver at the top and bottom end of the main image were done in the same manner. Finally I added some "bubbles" of red acrylic ink which I then outlined in black acrylic ink using a very fine brush. Some of the red ink which I applied to the painting I left to run down the image, these were also outlined in black ink.

An abstract acrylic painting with a textured black under-painting applied all over the canvas using a palette knife. Terracotta Temptation

An abstract acrylic and ink painting using various techniques resulting in several contrasting parts to the whole painting. An abstract acrylic and ink painting using various techniques resulting in several contrasting parts to the whole painting. A base colour of burnt umber was applied with a palette knife to the whole image. This was then left to dry. A second coat was applied with a mixture of crimson and burnt umber. Before it was dry, I scraped off selected areas to leave a paler segment underneath. I then used a metallic terracotta paint to draw swirls of small dots along the top half of the painting. These were left to dry, then I applied another coat of burnt umber over the top. This gave the impression that the metallic dots were raised within the painting rather than placed on top of it. I added lost more patterns of terracotta dots throughout the painting. Finally I used a dark brown acrylic ink to create a series of bubbles at the lower half of the image. This is an anstract painting which you can interpret any way you like. My mood was quite intense when I painted this, yet I knew exactly what I wanted to achieve regarding the final arrangement within the piece, therefore it is precisely painted, rich in colour and in depth.

Not Quite Everything is Black and White

An abstract painting in acrylic, which is a representation of the theory that not everything in life is black and white. An abstract painting in acrylic, which is a representation of the theory that not everything in life is black and white. This painting can be hung in any direction. Painted with acrylic paints for the black, white and grey stripes. I also used metallic pearlescent acrylic paints for the middle horizontal section, which I spread on with a palette knife, known to some as a trowel. The edges are also painted so that the pattern continues on both sides. It is painted on a box framed canvas, so you do not necessarily need to frame it, although the sides are slightly less deep than my usual ones at 3/4 inch. I painted this one when fellow artist Rob Kirbyson bought my other one recently. I liked it so thought I'd repeat the design. Nearly.
